I love using stencils & lustre dusts to create pretty cupcake toppers. It’s an easy & effective way to decorate your cakes!
One of the products in June’s cake bag was this sunflower stencil from Patchwork Cutters.
In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how you can create a few different effects using lustre dust and blossom tints using this stencil. All you’ll need in some white fondant icing, rolling pin, a few different colours of lustre dusts and blossom tints, a fluffy paintbrush and a round cutter.
First, roll out the icing to about 5mm thickness.
Place the stencil on the icing and use a small rolling pin to help stick the stencil onto the surface of the icing.
If you are using one colour of edible dust, use the fluffy brush to add the colour over the surface of the stencil.
Carefully lift the stencil to reveal the design.
Use a round cookie cutter to cut out a circle, around the edge of the flower design, to fit the top of your cupcakes.
You can also create a 2-tone effect with a darker colour in the centre then a lighter colour around the edge. I used orange glitter dust with lemon yellow blossom tint to create this beautiful effect which adds more dimension to the design!
Using gold metallic dust also gives you an amazing finish!
As you can see, with a little imagination, you can create a myriad of finishes using different colours to create cake toppers to suit the colour theme of your party or event!
We hope you enjoy this tutorial & that it inspires you to create some beautiful cupcakes! As always; don’t forget to share your cakes & bakes using the products inside your cake bags with us on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter using the hashtag #cakebagcreations.
