There was once a time when I didn’t ice and ribbon my cake boards! Nowadays, you’d rarely find any of my cake creations presented on a plain cake board! I think that it just adds a more professional finishing touch to my cakes and I can finish the boards with sugar messages much more easily; plus the messages stand out more on the fondant icing background!

One of the items is this lace cake board tape with a beautiful butterfly design.
It’s perfect to use around the edges of your cake boards. It’s also much easier than faffing about with ribbon; as you simply peel and stick on!
In this tutorial; I show you how to cover a cake board with fondant icing and finish with the lace tape.
You will need:
-ready to roll fondant icing
-cake smoother tool
-fanned paint brush
-clear alcohol or rejuvenater fluid
First, paint the board with edible glue.
Roll out the fondant icing to about 2-3mm thickness on a work surface dusted with icing sugar
Use the rolling pin to transfer the rolled out icing onto the cake board then use the cake smoother tool to smooth out any lumps and bumps.
Use the X-Acto knife to cut away the excess icing.
Use the cake smoother to tidy up the edges around the cake board.
Paint a little clear alcohol or rejuvenater fluid over the icing using a clean, fanned paintbrush to get rid of any icing sugar so you have a nice, clean canvas on which to present your cake! Leave to dry for about an hour or so.
Peel the tape away from the backing and attach around the edge of your cake board then use a pair of scissors to cut and finish.
And you are left with a perfectly decorated cake board ready to add your cake creation!
