I love adding sparkle to cakes using lustre dusts, sprays and edible glitter.
One of the products included in February’s cake bag was this little pot of Magic Sparkles; which are one of the few truly fully edible glitters.
Many other food decoration glitters are classified as ‘non-toxic’. Non-toxic glitters are not regarded as harmful to the body but they aren’t edible either. When selecting a food glitter it is very important to read the list of ingredients. Magic Sparkles are made from food ingredients and are therefore perfect for use on your sweet creations!
Magic Sparkles are also GM free, gluten free and suitable for vegetarians!
These rainbow sparkles create a prismatic effect in direct light which is so pretty!
You will have also received a little star cutter in your Birthday Party cake bag too which is perfect for making little cookies, cake decorations and cupcake toppers.
In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to use these 2 products together to create beautiful sparkly star cupcake toppers!
You will need some white sugar modelling paste, a small paintbrush and edible glue.
Roll out the sugar modelling paste to about 2mm thickness.
Use the star cutter to cut out a few stars.
Paint a little edible glue over the surface of the stars.
Pour the glitter into a small, shallow dish and place the stars glue side down and press down lightly to pick up the sparkles.
Place on a foam drying mat to dry out and harden.
meanwhile; pipe swirls of buttercream on top of the cupcakes, sprinkle over some magic sparkles and pop the stars on top of each cupcake.
These would be perfect for any rainbow or unicorn themed party!
